Besides all the B&Bs, wine is a major thing that draws tourists to the Hermann area. Of the several wineries around town, Stone Hill Winery is the largest and has the most extensive tour. The guided tour is free if you’re from Hermann and $2.50 for out-of-towners. The tour is a great way to see everything and learn about the winery’s interesting history and the wine-making process. The best part, though, is the wine tasting at the end of the tour. You’ll get to sample at least a dozen of Stone Hill’s wines, and here’s a tip: ask questions about some of the other wines as you go along and they’ll let you try those, too. You can buy a bottle or two of all the wines in the gift shop, and there’s a wide variety of other things in there for wine aficionados, so take your time looking. After that, linger on the pretty grounds and take in the views of the vineyard and the rustic buildings. There is also a nice restaurant next to the winery, Vintage 1847, so consider going to Stone Hill in the late afternoon and having dinner there when you’re finished.
